Today’s youth practically grow up in front of computer screens, whether at school, home, or just about anywhere in between. Logging on to a computer and surfing the net are like second nature for this generation of youth. But for those who grew up in a different time period, computers can be quite intimidating. For some, setting up an internet connection, let alone turning on a computer is a completely foreign topic. Fortunately, there are lots of resources out there to help you become computer literate. And with an easy to get satellite internet connection, you’ll be surfing the net and learning how to use all sorts of programs in no time.

The first thing you need to do is of course, purchase a computer. You’ll need to decide whether you want a desktop computer or a laptop. If you think you might use your computer outside of the home, getting a laptop is definitely your best option. Although laptops are somewhat different from desktops, you can get a mouse that plugs into the USB drive of the computer to make your learning experience a bit easier. Most computers come with a very basic software package that includes word processing and similar programs. As a beginner, these should be sufficient for your needs.

You’ll also want to get an internet connection as soon as possible. Satellite internet is one of the best connections you will find, and is especially user friendly should you encounter any problems. Especially since many programs offer online tutorials, you have all the more reason to start learning the basics of how to best use your satellite internet to your advantage.

It’s a good idea to get a few books on computer and internet usage. Any public library should have a decent selection of materials for you to check out and return once you feel you have grasped the concepts. You don’t have to have everything read before you attempt to turn on the computer, but even just a few chapters should help out. Really though, the best way to get comfortable with computers is by using them. You don’t need to worry about breaking anything, however, you do need to be aware of viruses that you might encounter on the internet. Fortunately, most computers come with software to prevent viruses from effecting your computer, thus you don’t have to worry too much.

Although you may not have grown up with computers, it is possible to learn how to use these marvelous devices at your age. Once you’ve set up your new computer and satellite internet connection, you’ll be ready to start learning the ways of computer and internet technologies. With the help of some books and perhaps a good friend, you’ll be a computer whiz in no time. You’ll realize that computers are not so difficult to use, and before you know it you’ll be helping your own friends get started!
